Fenty is not your usual celebrity brand. Rihanna has worked hard to change the beauty industry and has certainly succeeded. She has garnered several major fashion deals, collaborating with Dior, Manolo Blahnik, Stance Socks, Puma, River Island, and LVMH. Rihanna’s collaborations and stand-alone brands set her apart from her contemporaries.
Rihanna launched her brand, Fenty Beauty, in 2017, solidifying her place as a major cosmetics brand. The line began with a 40-shade foundation range and 91 variations of cosmetics, appealing to the demand for darker shades and products that work with darker skin. While not the first to work towards inclusivity in their products, she is a top contender. Today Fenty has grown to 50 foundations, 50 concealers, highlighters, lipstick, blush, and eye shadow, fixing her place as one of the leading beauty brands focusing on inclusivity.
The beauty brand later released Fenty skin as a part of the Fenty collection. Instead of releasing 40 products, Rihanna shows us less is more with only three. Fenty creates a routine for you with their skincare products, featuring a makeup-removing cleanser, exfoliating toner/serum, and an SPF moisturizer with no white cast.
To further her reach in the beauty industry, Rihanna released Fenty Parfum in 2021. The fragrance is warm and inviting, with spicy and sweet notes. Like every Fenty product, the impact was immediate, selling out immediately upon release and restocking.
Rihanna expanded her empire into lingerie in 2018 with Savage x Fenty, upholding her devotion to diversity. The brand launched during fashion week, closing the show with an immersive experience. The staging forms a botanical garden with hydroponics, a pond, magnifying dome, and a laboratory lined with models and dancers of all body types. The lingerie line shows diversity not only in the body types portrayed but also in her designs.
Rather than focusing only on seduction, Rihanna separates her line into four moods on the reg, providing updates on classic lingerie; black widow, for bold styles; u cute, embracing pastels and lace; and damn, with tiny bralettes and sheer bodysuits.
Savage x Fenty has taken their approach to showcasing all body types further than any other. Rihanna has created a hybrid of a lingerie fashion show with a concert, empowering those deemed undesirable by societal standards. The show features an elaborate music arrangement, seductive choreography, and models with different body types and disabilities.
