It’s New Music Friday!
Here are my top picks for the week.
Alicia Keys — Best of Me
Alicia Key has officially announced that on December 10th, she will be releasing her eighth studio album, KEYS.
“Best of Me” is the 2nd single to be released from the new album.
Alicia Keys beautifully depicts the love between her and Swizz in this rhythmic slow jam. She communicates what it’s like to have found someone you can be 100% transparent with, while also describing the feeling of finally finding that forever love.
Sade’s “Cherish the Day” was used as a sample.
JORDY — South Dakota
The grass isn’t always greener on the other side. In the new song “South Dakota,” JORDY describes the longing of wanting to move to another city. The singer, who is originally from Illinois, shares what it’s like living in Los Angeles.
This song is highly relatable. I think it’s safe to say that we’ve all scrolled through Instagram and thought to ourselves, I wonder how life in [insert name of popular city] would be. But it’s interesting to hear that life in Los Angeles isn’t what it’s all cracked up to be from his perspective. Sometimes you have to leave home to appreciate the little things that made home so special.
Joel Corry — I Wish featuring Mabel
Sometimes we do things that mess up our own happily ever afters. Whether it’s self-sabotage or big mistakes we wish we could take back. In “I Wish,” Mabel sings about her own past mistakes that may have cost her relationship.
I find it interesting that although the lyrics are sad and apologetic, the instrumentation and energy presented in vocals are the complete opposite. It’s an upbeat sad song.
Niko Rubio — All Mine
Niko Rubio is the perfect artist to include in your next road trip playlist. In her latest single, “All Mine,” she takes us on her own personal road trip, highlighting love, music, and nights you wish could last forever.
My favorite part is “ I want to take tonight and put it in a bottle.” It’s such a cute way to describe a perfect night.
