The 2025 Met Gala, themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” was a profound celebration of Black dandyism, highlighting its enduring significance in Black culture. This year’s event, co-chaired by luminaries such as Colman Domingo, Pharrell Williams, Lewis Hamilton, and A$AP Rocky, brought to the forefront the rich tapestry of Black sartorial elegance and its role as a form of resistance and self-expression.
Black dandyism, with roots tracing back to the 18th century, has long been a medium through which Black individuals assert identity, challenge societal norms, and reclaim narratives.
